1c) Best Mobile TV or Video Service

About this category:

From live TV programming and video on demand to user generated content and multimedia services, the convergence of the media, mobile and consumer electronics industries in tandem with user demand for dynamic content is gathering momentum.

This category aims to highlight developments from the world of MobileTV and video services, showcasing the benefits of various new technologies, from services delivered over Mobile Broadband/HSPA, to new Mobile TV access technologies, such as Digital Video broadcasting Handheld (DVB-H), Digital Multimedia broadcasting (DMB) and others that are transmitted over, or complement mobile networks.

The judges will shortlist three to five entries in this category, with one winner announced at the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong on Wednesday 18th November 2009.

Note! This year's winners in the Asia Mobile Awards will gain an automatic nomination (short listing) for the GSMA's Global Mobile Awards in 2010.

The Global Mobile Awards will be presented at the world's leading mobile communications event, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain in February 2010.

Eligibility

This category is open to the global ecosystem of content providers, broadcasters, production companies, application developers and aggregators and mobile network operators that serve Asian markets with dynamic Mobile TV or Video services.

Entries can only be submitted for Mobile TV or Video Services that are commercially available. The service entered must have been commercially available between 30th November 2008 and the closing date of the GSMA's Asia Mobile Awards on Tuesday 15th September 2009 (5pm Hong Kong time) and be available in at least one or more Asian market*. Please provide evidence to support this such as launch date of the service, including details of Asian countries or regions where the service is available, together with reviews and statistical evidence of market success or take up.

Judging Criteria

Judges in this category will be looking for a mix of the right ingredients that in their opinion have made, or will make for successful Mobile TV or video services by providing mobile users with an engaging, compelling viewing experience. They will be looking for services that:

  • Deliver compelling/engaging/sticky content
  • Are supported by suitable handsets, with hi-resolution screens, picture quality and easy navigation
  • Provide affordable content packages with innovative bundling
  • Are market appealing
  • Are backed by marketing & promotional efforts and campaigns
  • Can demonstrate evidence of user engagement
  • Demonstrate synergies and support for existing mobile eco system

Entry forms, supporting materials & formats:

All entries must be submitted by Tuesday 15th September 2009 (5pm Hong Kong time).

In order to ensure a consistent approach for our judges, entries must be submitted using the Best MobileTV or Video Service entry form.

An additional email upload facility will be provided via a link in your confirmation email once your entry has been submitted. You have the opportunity to attach files, these can be either a .jpg, .gif, .tif, .bmp (for pictures), most common formats for video.

You will have the ability to attach 3 additional files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 10MB each.

Specific Entry Form Questions:

On the entry form, in addition to submitting contact and company information, you will be asked to answer the following questions (maximum text/character length for your answers also shown in brackets below):

  • What is the brand name of your MobileTV or Video Service? (100 characters = approx 20 words)
  • Is this a joint entry? If so. Who are the partnering organisations? (100 characters = approx 20 words)
  • When was the service launched and in which Asian markets? (100 characters = approx 20 words
  • How many active users have you engaged since the service was launched? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • In what ways does it deliver compelling/engaging content for users? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • Which handsets do you offer as part of the service? Please provide details of models, including key handset functions and features? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • In what ways is it simple to use and easy to navigate for users? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • Please provide full details of cost to connect to the service for user, including details of bundled content packages available? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • In summary what makes your service market appealing? What has made/or will make users switch on, and stay tuned? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)
  • What efforts has your organisation made to market & promote the service, ie what promotional spend has been deployed, and what forms of marketing have been utilised, to what effect? (1000 characters = Approx 170 words)

Please note: Use URLs when they are specific/ relevant to the category and will help judges further understand your entry, but due to the number of entries received, judges will not have time to surf company websites looking for further information on the entered product/service or initiative.
